Quebecer Hendrix Lapierre was recalled by the Washington Capitals on Sunday morning. The Capitals also placed forward Nic Dowd on the injured list.

Lapierre is playing his second full season in the professional ranks, with the Hershey Bears. In six games this season, Lapierre has not hit the target, but he has collected three assists.

Last season, his first with the Bears, he finished the campaign with 15 goals and 15 assists in 60 games. He then helped the Bears win the Calder Cup in the American League.

If Lapierre is called up to play with Washington during his recall, it won’t be his first NHL game. Lapierre played six duels in the Bettman circuit in 2021-2022, in which he scored one goal.

The Capitals are 3-3-1 in seven games this season. They will be in action Sunday night once morest the San Jose Sharks (0-7-1).

Lapierre was a first-round pick of the Capitals in 2020, 22nd overall. He played his junior hockey in the QMJHL with the Chicoutimi Saguenéens and the Acadie Bathurst Titan.

Good news for the Panthers

Defensemen Aaron Ekblad and Brandon Montour participated in Florida Panthers practice Sunday morning, for the first time wearing regular player jerseys.

Both men are recovering from summer shoulder surgeries and have not appeared in a game this season.

“I believe their injuries had a fitness window of four to six months. The doctors must give their approval, but they have been getting closer to a return to play for two and a half weeks. They might be available towards the end of the month,” commented Paul Maurice.

They had taken part in some “injured player” training sessions since the start of the season, but they had still not joined their teammates.

Montour had the best season of his career in 2022-23 with 16 goals and 73 points in 80 games. Ekblad, for his part, amassed 14 goals and 38 points in 71 duels.

The Panthers have a record of four wins once morest three losses this season in seven outings.
