The future of Boeing Co.’s modern 737 Max planes now rests in the hands of nearly 700 workers in a hangar at a desert airport in Washington state.

Boeing jets are making a comeback at a time when the demand for new planes and air travel has fallen due to the global pandemic of the coronavirus. Boeing is also facing new European trade tariffs and apparent mistrust.

Airlines say the planes will need two weeks for software and repairs, and Boeing has deployed teams around the world to provide support to airlines.

The 737 Max was priced at $122 million, with several of the planes being sold exclusively at a 50 percent discount. Jet traders say the new price could be even lower with further discounts on the Max aircraft.

On the other hand, the Federal Aviation Administration has said that it will inspect all 450 planes. It may take at least a year to complete this verification process.
