Realme has taken advantage of the environment of the Mobile World Congress to show off its latest high-end phone for Europe, although this was no surprise, because the Realme GT 2 Pro, which is what it is called, was already presented in China at the beginning of January and all its characteristics were known. This terminal should not be confused with the GT Neo 2 range that we already saw in November of last year and that, although it is the low-end version of the GT 2 Pro, has little to do with it. The premise of the GT Pro is to be the ‘flagship killer’, that is, the ‘high-end killers’, offering premium features for a price below 800 euros.

We will see if the new Realme GT 2 Pro is able to deliver on the promise.

Probably one of the things that we liked the most regarding the Realme GT 2 Pro is its design. Tired of the glass finish of almost all high-end terminals, the back made with eco-sustainable biopolymers of the Realme GT 2 Pro is a breath of fresh air. The design has been done by Naoto Fukasawa, a Japanese industrial designer with extensive experience in electronic devices. The goal is to simulate the roleand the truth is that it gives a great sensation in the hand, very pleasant.

What we cannot guarantee is its durability, and how dirty it will be over time. For this reason, Realme includes a cover, but opaque, which unfortunately hides its beautiful design, available in green, white and black. You can’t have everything, glass is durable and clean, but biopolymers allow for a distinctive and memorable design. The three lenses that make up the camera of the GT 2 Pro are found in a square that protrudes slightly, nothing surprising.

On the front we find a magnificent 6.7-inch flat screen, without any curve, which is appreciated, 2K AMOLED with LTPO 2.0 technology, 525 PPI, the first of its kind in a mobile phone. Its best quality is that it can adjust the screen refresh automatically from 1 Hz to 120 Hz, saving battery considerably thanks to LTPO technology. All this translates into a bright screen, thanks to 1,400 nits and with a great color balance. We can not forget the 1,000 Hz sampling of the touch screen, perfect for gaming, and the Gorilla Glass Victus protection, capable of surviving drops from two meters. Under the screen the GT 2 Pro hides the fingerprint reader that has been comfortable and fast to use.

good cameras

The three cameras are another of the great strengths of this phone, a main camera of 50 megapixels, 1/1.56, with OIS and EIS stabilization and a Sony IMX766 sensor, especially bright that we have already seen in other high-end phones such as the Oppo Find X5, a wide viewing angle of 150 degrees, 50 megapixels of resolution and Samsung ISOCELL JN1 sensor, and a third 40x FHD ultra macro lens.

The camera results overall they are of high quality, capable of facing any high-end phone. Especially in those situations where the Sony sensor assembly, stabilization and artificial intelligence shine the most, as it is in night photography, giving rise to photographs with hardly any grain, well defined, even on a dark night.

Realme wanted to enhance the wide angle of the GT Pro, giving it a wide range of 150 degrees, when most phones stay at 130 degrees, even capable of taking photos with a fisheye effect. Obviously, the results can be somewhat distorted on the sides, but it is normal in an objective of these characteristics. The third lens is a macro, with a microscope effect, you can get some interesting photos with it, but in general it is not very useful and we would have preferred to have a telephoto lens, which would give the camera more versatility. The zoom is digital, so its use is totally discouraged, since the images lose quality very quickly. As for the video, its resolution reaches 4K, and the OIS and EIS stabilizer, typical of professional cameras, leaves a fantastic result, even in motion, and especially good, for the first time, in night mode.

The GT 2 Pro’s CPU is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 5G, Qualcomm’s latest and most powerful processor, giving an Antutu result of over a million points, leading the way in speed among Android phones. The artificial intelligence capacity increases up to 400% over its predecessor, the results can be seen first-hand in night photography, which is one of the sharpest we have been able to test on a mobile phone.

gaming mode

The GT series is characterized by having a ‘GT’ mode, especially designed for video games, the results of the performance tools do not vary much, but the phone, by stopping the optimization of resources to improve consumption, offers its full potential to play. The GT mode might mean that the terminal reaches high temperatures, but the well-known 9-layer vapor chamber system that practically covers the entire surface of the terminal, keeps it at bay, even during long games, where we also cover the phone with both hands. The processor is accompanied by a maximum of 12 gigabytes of RAM and 256 gigabytes of disk. Although it is something very difficult to test, Realme has installed 12 antennas around the GT 2 Pro that optimize the connection, choosing those that have a better signal at all times, the same goes for the NFC that occupies 50% of the surface of the phone , improving its performance.

The battery is 5,000 mAh and 65W fast charge, that is, goes from 0% to 100% in just 33 minutes, more than enough for a full day of use. Thanks to the optimization of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, battery consumption has been reduced, and with average use it can easily exceed 24 hours of autonomy.

Responding to the initial question of whether Realme GT 2 Pro is capable of unseating the high-end, we can say that with a price of 749.99 euros, the version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 gigabytes of disk, and a discount of 100 € if booked in advance, it is able to compete perfectly in the high range, considering that its only weakness is in the lack of optical zoom, because the rest of the cameras, power and screen, are the best we can buy today. The price of the configuration of 12 gigabytes of RAM and 256 gigabytes of disk that we have tested amounts to 849.99 euros, also with a 100€ discount if reserved before launch.

The GT 2 version with 8 gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of disk, aimed at the mid-range with a price of 549 euros and a discount of 100 in reserve, lowers the power of its processor to a Snapdragon 888 5G, a high-end processor last year’s high, and a Samsung AMOLED screen with a refresh rate of 120Hz. It maintains the same Sony IMX766 sensor in the cameras, but the macro resolution drops to 4 megabytes, and the wide angle to 8 megabytes. Rest of the features remain the same as the Pro version, including the layout.

Among the new products that Realme launches in Europe, we find the new Buds Air 3 headphones with a price of 59.99 euros that improve audio cancellation by 68%, and two televisions, one 50-inch and 4k resolution for 499, 99 euros and a second 32-inch LCD, for 249.99 euros. In addition, the Realme Book Prime, the laptop that had not yet arrived in Europe, lands in our country with a price of 999 euros for the version with i5, 8 GB of RAM and 512 gigabytes of SSD and 1099 for the version with 16 gigabytes of RAM and 512 GB of disk.
