The new method

Remember, this is not another normal season of the prestigious factory, as it will change its face this season in favor of a new format. After years of a group stage format, followed by the knockout stages, this year the teams will first compete in a stage that will be called the “League Stage”.

The 36 teams (increased from the 32 that were in the factory until now) will all compete as part of one league table and divided into four levels. Each team will be drawn to play eight games, against two opponents from each tier, including its own tier, where each tier will draw one away game and one home game.

The teams will earn one point for a draw and three points for a win, just like in a regular league, and at the end of the eight rounds the league will be divided into several parts, with the first eight automatically qualifying for the round of 16.

The teams that finish between the ninth and 24th place will meet each other in a crossover (9th place vs. 24th, 10th vs. 23rd and so on) for a knockout stage with two games (home and away) with the winners of it qualifying for the round of 16 as well and from there the knockout will proceed in the usual manner.

Those who finish the league stage between the 25th and 36th places will say goodbye to the factory and, unlike the previous version of the competition, will not continue their journey in the European League, but will end their European season completely.

Regarding the lottery, it will be held with a different concept as well, which will replace the outdated method that was based solely on collecting balls from bowls. Each team will still be physically drawn by hand before a computer program selects its eight opponents. No club can play against another team from its own country, and no club can play more than two games against teams from a certain country.
