“Real truths, the life of Estela de Carlotto”, is the title of the emblematic and prize-winning film at the Valladolid – Seminci Festival (Official Selection of the competition), which will be screened at 9.30 pm on Thursday 11 July in the courtyard of the Mindiloglio Primary School and on Sunday July 14 in Kato Kastritsi (Forecourt of the Club), for the Municipal Mobile Cinema section.
The film is dedicated to the missing persons of the dictatorship in Argentina and their children. It refers to the military coup that replaced the country’s constitutional government. It also describes the policies of terrorism and violation of human rights that they implemented every day, while within a few years thousands of citizens, mainly dissidents, of different ages and social classes mysteriously disappeared, while others were murdered.
Among the victims of the regime were young women, young children and unborn babies. Women who were pregnant during their arrest gave birth in prisons and their babies following they were kidnapped were given for adoption to soldiers and people friendly to the regime.
Estella was a middle-class lady who divided her time between her family and her job as a school principal and lived completely removed from any political activity. However, following the kidnapping and murder of her daughter, Laura, between 1977 and 1978, and the disappearance of her grandson Guido, who was being held by his captors, her life changed completely.

Nicolás Gil Lavedra tells the life of the human rights activist, president of the “Grandmothers of May Square” in Argentina, through the lens of the film.
