AMERICAN INDICES GROW AS IT IS USEFUL TO HAVE INFORMATION FROM INSIDE THE COMPANY
The main American indices rose on Tuesday, extending an eight-week increase in this last week of the year, once morest a backdrop of expectations of a reduction in interest rates by the Federal Reserve from March.
The S&P 500 Index .SPX finished at 4,774.75, down 0.5% from its record high of 4,796.56 reached on January 3, 2022.
Meanwhile, strength in Intel INTC.O supported gains in a number of major indexes. Intel rallied just over 5% following announcing a $3.2 billion grant to build a chip manufacturing plant in Israel.
The stock provided the second biggest boost to DJI
.DJI on the day, and the third-biggest boost to both the S&P 500 .SPX and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC .
Additionally, Intel made the largest contribution to the strength of the Nasdaq 100 .NDX , and the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index .SOX .
All 30 members of the SOX index ended the day higher, with the index jumping 1.8% to a new record high. The SOX index is now up just over 66% in 2023, and is poised for its biggest annual rise since a 69.63% advance in 2009.
