Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro confirmed that his team has not decided following the Champions League quarter-final once morest Chelsea, despite its 3-1 victory in the first leg at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel strongly criticized his team following last week’s defeat, saying that it would be “impossible” to recover from this loss, words that did not go unnoticed in the Real Madrid dressing room.
“We will not fall into this trap, we probably played our best 90 minutes of the season in London last week and took a big step towards qualifying for the semi-finals, but we should not be overconfident,” Casemiro told a news conference on Monday.
“We all heard what Thomas Tuchel said. We will not be deceived by this. We know it will be a tough match. Chelsea, the defending champion, is not going to take it lightly. I can assure you of that.”
Casemiro called on Real Madrid fans to support the team strongly at the Santiago Bernabeu and help him complete the task he started in London.
“We will need our fans to support us from the start,” Casemiro said.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti agreed with Casemiro that the team would not fall into the trap of Tuchel’s comments.
“Chelsea will come here to turn things around,” the Italian coach said, when asked if Tuchel was playing mind games once morest his team. I have no doubts regarding that, he can say whatever he wants, but I’m sure Chelsea will come here to win, that’s the spirit of football, the spirit of big clubs and great players, who never give up.”
“I’m lucky because I have a group of players who know these kinds of matches so well that anything can happen,” Ancelotti added. They have a high fighting spirit and are delighted with the opportunity to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League. But Chelsea is a great team. He is a strong competitor. We have to treat him with great respect and we will do so.”
