It was painted as the “Mbappé derby”.

Then Jonathan David stepped forward as a hero when Lille roared against Real Madrid.

– We were bad tonight, says Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Younger brother Ethan Mbappé missed the game due to injury and older brother Kylian Mbappé started on the bench as the reigning CL champions visited French side Lille.

Real Madrid still lined up with a star-studded starting eleven, but this time they were beaten.

The audience and television viewers only got to see a single goal – which was scored by Lille’s Jonathan David from the penalty spot.

Rüdiger is sawn

The goal came in the closing stages of the first half and no further forcing came from Real Madrid.

Instead, Antonio Rüdiger was close to embarrassing himself.

He grabbed the arm of a Lille player and knocked him over, which was risky as he already had a yellow card.

But Rüdiger escaped and had to finish the match.

– In my world it should be red. It’s really ugly, says Viaplay’s expert Martin Åslund.

Ancelotti critical

Real Madrid had played 36 consecutive Champions League games without losing.

Now the suite is broken.

– Lille was better than us and deserved to win. We were bad tonight and it felt like everything was in slow motion. We didn’t create anything, were sluggish when we had the ball and had no ideas. It was bad in every respect, says coach Carlo Ancelotti.
