The result puts Ancelotti’s side in good stead to reach the quarter-finals, but the Italian veteran is taking nothing for granted as Jurgen Klopp and his team-mates travel to Madrid.
Last season, his team had to show a lot of self-sacrifice in the knockout matches of the Champions League, before winning against Liverpool in Paris.
A very suspicious Ancelotti
Los Blancos blew a 3-1 first-leg lead against Chelsea in the Round of 16 with a late Karim Benzema goal, and Ancelotti is keen to prevent that from happening again.
“We have the experience of last year against Chelsea. We have an advantage, that’s why we are favourites, but we have to play 90 minutes more with the same attitude as in the first leg,” according to Marca.
“We have an advantage, but we can’t think of managing the game, we have to play 90 minutes at the highest level”.
Ancelotti hinted his side didn’t have an injury problem in the 3-1 La Liga win over Espanyol and closed the title gap to six points on FC Barcelona on the night.
Benzema is set to return to the starting XI, having been rested against the Catalans, and Ancelotti is set to rotate his midfield.
