READINESS to face potential traffic jams when returning home must be a concern of the public and government officials to ensure security and comfort during the Eid homecoming period.
“The potential for almost simultaneous movement of people to their hometowns must be properly anticipated by the government and the community, so that the impacts that occur can be handled properly,” said Deputy Chair of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly, Lestari Moerdijat in a written statement, Friday (5/4) .
The government estimates that the peak homecoming flow will occur on April 5 – 7 2024 and the return flow will be on April 14 – 15 2024.
Police note that the challenge that will arise during the 2024 homecoming period is the drastic increase in the estimated number of homecoming travelers to 193.6 million people.
Based on the same records, the high number of travelers has the potential to cause a domino effect such as long traffic jams and traffic accidents.
According to Lestari, based on the experience of homecoming flows in previous years, without good management, severe traffic jams will result in travelers becoming tired and even dying.

So, added Rerie, Lestari’s nickname,
To anticipate traffic jams and the threat of accidents, vehicle readiness and the health of travelers must be ensured to be in top condition.
Because, said Rerie, in the midst of the movement of millions of people almost simultaneously, if there is a problem with the vehicle or a traveler is sick, it will have an impact on other travelers.
A number of anticipatory steps, added Rerie, who is also a legislator from Electoral District II Central Java, must be taken, such as the availability of health posts and vehicle repair services at a number of vulnerable points on the homecoming route.

Apart from that, said Rerie, the health of public transportation drivers and the vehicles they use must also be ensured of their suitability to serve travelers.
So, emphasized the member of the NasDem Party’s High Council, if travelers are ensured that they are healthy and the means of transportation used are in prime condition, and the infrastructure is adequate, concerns regarding traffic jams will be reduced.
No less important, added Rerie, is massive socialization regarding the current conditions of each homecoming route, so that if there are potential obstacles, anticipatory efforts can be made by homecoming travelers immediately.
Rerie really hopes that security forces and stakeholders at the central and regional levels can manage the homecoming flow well, so that homecoming travelers can enjoy security and comfort while staying in touch with their families in their hometowns.
