We receive tens of thousands of responses per week and your contributions provide current statements, new articles and interesting questions every week. In this section we list the best reactions and questions.
1. Agreement on new collective labor agreement for municipal employees, job strikes
This week it was announced that municipalities and trade unions have agreed on a new collective labor agreement. This means that garbage collectors and other employees will receive at least 240 euros per month. On top of that, they will receive a 2 percent wage increase. Previously announced strikes have been canceled for the time being.
- NUjij’ers went into a discussion regarding strikes because of this news. So shares user Yggdrasil his experience with the strike of the garbage collectors:
“I’ve seen what happens to a city when these people go on strike because they want a decent salary. Picking up garbage may not be complicated, but it is incredibly important to keep everyone’s living environment clean and healthy. They deserve it. “
There were also several readers who wondered whether going on strike is a good way to stand up for your rights. So gives user Ron_Vonk to have a mixed feeling regarding this: “As much as I wish all these people, the wrong signal is being sent here. If you just go on strike, you will automatically get more pay,” he writes.
To allow you to continue discussing this, the next day we posted the statement ‘Going on strike is a good way to stand up for your rights’.
- User Henk_coffee drinker agrees with the statement:
“Thanks to people who have stood up for workers’ rights in the past and sometimes got into serious trouble with it, we have a pretty good working climate in the Netherlands. Strikes are sometimes necessary to force something.”
“It is now a bit restless with extra many strikes, but the number of days on strike in the Netherlands is historically low. I do not know any country where there are no or hardly any trade unions or strikes are prohibited where workers’ rights are doing well.”
- Reader Rusty1979 look at this differently:
“It’s a bit double. Over the years, employment law has gotten better and better for employees and that’s really because people stood up for themselves collectively and not through individual actions.”
“Still, I never have a good feeling regarding strikes. I would just switch jobs myself if I don’t like it somewhere. Nowadays, of course, that can also be done a lot easier than before.”
2. More and more supermarkets are banning plastic bags
The free plastic bags at the fruit and vegetable department will disappear from five large Dutch supermarkets. Leader Albert Heijn was the first to ban plastic bags last year. ALDI, Jumbo, Lidl and PLUS will follow in the course of this year.
- Readers discussed this article regarding plastic bags and packaging. So find user Judith_ae690e79 It’s nice that supermarkets stop this:
“Because I have hated all unnecessary plastic for years, I thought it was fantastic when this was introduced a few years ago at both Lidl and AH. Only the nylon bags break quickly and are therefore far from sustainable.”
“You can’t put more than 2 kilos of fruit and vegetables in it with good decency, because otherwise the bag will become too heavy and it will tear. When you have used the bag a few times, the drawstring will fall off. Every x number use, you have to buy new nylon bags once more, which is why I have since abandoned them.”
“I weigh my loose fruit and vegetables and then put them loose in a linen bag. I think this is a great solution, but the employees who carry out self-scan checks at AH unfortunately sometimes think differently regarding this, because it is so more difficult to check the weight when you get a checkup.”
On NUjij, this article sparked a discussion regarding pre-packaged products. So find reader Meningkjes02 that all unnecessary plastic and cardboard packaging must be tackled. NUjij’er Maarten1 wonders how he can take the vegetables home without plastic bags on his bicycle and thinks that we should not go too far in plastic banning.
To keep readers talking regarding this, we asked you regarding this topic in our NUjij column ‘Talk regarding’, where the discussion continued.
- User Anna19 also uses many products that are packaged in plastic, but sees the problem of this:
“I’m 63, and I’ve seen the plastic coming.”
“I find it bizarre that in 1 generation we have become so dependent on a product that is so bad for the world. But I also always have a plastic bottle of water with me, so I do participate.”
“I do think that what we have learned that we can also unlearn. Plastic is not necessarily bad, throw away plastic certainly is. When I see that we have our own plastic container and what is in it every month, too bizarre for words actually. I have children and grandchildren who will still have major problems with this, I’m afraid. 60 years ago we managed just fine without it, we should be able to go back to that.”
3. Why is the Marco Borsato investigation taking so long? Your questions answered
BOOS revealed that more than a year ago The voice of Holland everything happened behind the scenes. Marco Borsato, Ali B, Jeroen Rietbergen and a director were accused of sexually transgressive behaviour. But following those revelations, it remained largely silent.
Via NUjij, readers asked questions regarding the criminal investigations, which were answered in an article. The most frequently asked question was: why is it taking so long?
- User Jowi1 also thinks that the investigation takes a very long time:
“It goes without saying that these cases must be thoroughly investigated: hear, hear the other side, etc. But this has been taking a very long time for both victims and suspects.”
“Regardless of whether or not the suspects are found guilty and to what extent, this uncertainty serves no one.”
