Readers ask – experts answer

The explanations to Mr. Steinle’s questions regarding Earendel in SuW 1/2023, p. 7, brought up new questions for me: The cosmic expansion expands the space, but in the spectrum dossier 3/2005 “The Beginning of the World” on p 14–15 that gravitationally bound objects – such as the Andromeda galaxy – are hardly affected by the cosmic expansion, i.e. they are not enlarged or stretched. Only the distance to other objects increases. Therefore, in my opinion, the Andromeda galaxy from the example in the January issue should also appear smaller beyond z=1.62. However, if objects really get larger from z=1.62, then objects at very large redshifts should appear huge. However, I am not aware of any such objects on deep-field images. I would appreciate further explanations.
