Yesterday’s revelation by the “Peloponnisos” newspaper regarding the televised “relegation” of the Patrinos Carnival by ERT caused strong reactions and sharp comments in the local community. But apparently, it had not been communicated even to the members of the Board of Directors of the Carnival Organization!
We remind you that our newspaper published yesterday decision of the state channel to send, for the first time in television history, the broadcast of the central parade from ERT-1, where it was traditionally hosted, to the low-rated ERT-3. And in fact, with parallel connections with the… Xanthiotiko Carnival and other carnival events of the whole country!
THE revelation of “P” mobilized them opposition factionswho made scathing statements, as well as pr. Deputy Mayor for Culture, Alexis Skarmeaduring whose tenure ERT-1 broadcast a total of not one, but 5 carnival events every year!
Instead, the Carnival Organization continues to keep silent, although its president Ira Kouri had previously announced to “P” that she would issue a relevant announcement yesterday.
“DID THE CITY NOT KNOW?”
Speaking to “P”, o Dimitris Sakellaropoulos, of the faction of Kostas Svolis, emphasized that this development constitutes a demotion of the Patrine Carnival. “It’s like falling from the 1st national team to the 3rd national team! The Patrinos Carnival is equated with that of Xanthi and other cities. I don’t know if this is done deliberately or carelessly. In any case, this cannot be allowed. Either through our silence, or through our tolerance. Does the Municipality say that it was not aware of this development? But how did he not know that, when he presented ERT-3 and not ERT-1 as the sponsor of communication in his own press releases?
In each case, the responsibilities of the municipal authority are given and must be apologized to the people of Patrina for this development! The Municipality should have demanded the exclusive transmission that was valid for so many years and not the fragmentary one. And in case it was not listened to, to ban the broadcast!”.
“DISQUALIFICATION OF THE INSTITUTION”
THE Ilias Constantatos, of Vassilis Aivalis’ faction, underlined that the broadcast of the parade through ERT-3, and indeed fragmentarily, is a degradation of the Carnival and the city: “We are talking regarding discrediting this cultural institution of Patras, since the moment it is transferred to a channel with very little television viewing and even in parallel transmissions with other carnivals.
The question is, how does Patra end up in the same position as Xanthiregarding their carnival parades.

“BUT THE PRESIDENT TOLD US”
On her part, Akia Stamatis, member of the Board of Directors of the Carnival Organization as a representative of Petros Psoma’s factiontold “P” that the KEDIP Council was never informed of this development:
«The Board of Directors had not been informed in any way regarding ERT-3. Mrs. Kouri had informed us at the Council in early March, when asked regarding it, that the broadcast would be carried out normally by ERT-1 and everything is going well! It clearly is an unfortunate development, which none of us expected. Although it seems that since Ms Kouri took over, KEDIP’s relationship with ERT is not in the best condition! I remember that during the days of the current president, the televised broadcast of the foot parade by ERT was “cut off”!
This development constitutes a a huge blow to our Carnival and our city. The Patrino Carnival cannot be equated with other younger and smaller carnivals. We are three days before the peak of our Carnival and we have no information from the Municipality regarding what will happen in the end. As spiral, we will take initiative to reverse this decision…”.
“TAKE INTERVENTIONS NOW”
THE pr. Deputy Mayor Alexis Skarmeas reminded, speaking to “P”, that “in our term, ERT-1 broadcasted 5 times: the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, the Children’s Parade, the nightly Podaratis and the Sunday Parade.»
To complete: “This broadcast launched by ERT-3 is a very bad development for the promotion of the Patronus Carnival. Is absolute failure for our Carnival and it is very sad that ERT-1 does not give the promotion it should to Patrino Carnival. And I wonder with both the Municipal and the Regional Authority that they do not intervene to overturn this, raising the matter directly to the management of the state broadcaster”.
