Reactions after the 0-2 victory over RSC Anderlecht

Our visit to Anderlecht ended in a great victory. Thanks to a goal by Sadick, we deservedly went to rest with a 0-1 lead. In the second half, Anderlecht looked for a reaction, but we held up perfectly and were even able to double the score after a goal by Adedeji-Sternberg in the final phase. With the victory, we continued our series of five victories in a row.

Thorsten Fink: “Nice win, but our second half could have been better”

After the match, coach Thorsten Fink was pleased with the players’ efforts. “Especially in the first half, we were strong in the duels and had some big chances. Our team was good both defensively and offensively. Even after missing the penalty, we kept looking for the lead and got what we deserved.”

However, he also saw areas for improvement in the second half. “There were a few situations where we could have kept the ball longer, just like we did in the first half. The team worked hard and forced several chances, but we could have decided the match earlier in the second half. In the end, we scored the redeeming goal. Winning five matches in a row is good and gives us confidence.”

Mujaid Sadick pleased with opening goal and full of praise for Matte Smets

Mujaid Sadick gave Genk the opening goal on the stroke of half-time. He chested the ball into the goal from a corner kick after a deflection by Bryan Heynen. “I’m very happy to open the scoring. We knew it would be a tough game, so I’m happy with the three points,” Sadick said afterwards. “The guideline at half-time was to keep the score, keep a clean sheet and kill the game with an extra goal. The second goal was a long time coming, but it’s just as important that we kept a clean sheet.”

Much of that defensive power came from the solid duo of Smets-Sadick in central defence. “Despite his young age, he plays very strong and mature. Everyone is amazed by him,” Mujaid praised his partner.

Noah put the game to bed with his first goal for Genk

It was a great evening for Noah Adedeji-Sternberg. He opened his account for KRC Genk for the first time and immediately closed the books. “The moment of the goal actually happened very quickly. I stayed very calm and honestly hadn’t thought about a goal celebration. For me it’s mainly about the performance of the team. Of course I’m very happy with my first goal for KRC Genk, but this is just the beginning. I know I have to wait patiently for playing time, but I’m always ready to seize my chance when it comes. That’s my mentality: work hard, stay patient and be eager when the opportunity arises. The season is still long and I want to keep growing, learning and being important for the team.”
