Defense Minister Tanner: “New measures are intended to visibly expand the militia that can be deployed quickly”
Vienna (OTS) – The reaction militia is ready within 48 to 72 hours and helps in critical situations. In order to increase the response militia’s personnel, militia soldiers should recruit other militiamen. For this they receive 250 euros as a reward. So far, 469 militiamen have signed up for the reaction militia. We are looking for soldiers in the hunter companies and the reconnaissance platoon: from IT experts to drivers, paramedics and infantry. The aim is to further expand and strengthen the reaction militia.
Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner: “The militia is an integral and important part of the Federal Army. Our militiamen make a significant contribution to operational readiness. The rapid action of the reaction militia means that threats can be responded to around the clock. New measures are intended to expand the reaction militia. I’m proud of all the soldiers who are already part of it.”
The reaction militia has a higher level of readiness than the militia. From the time the alarm is raised, the soldiers are ready to help in natural disasters, relief operations or border surveillance within 48 hours. Since the desired number of personnel has not yet been reached, the new measure “Militia Network” has been implemented. When militiamen recruit other militia soldiers, they receive a reward of 250 euros for their commitment and motivation. The soldiers of the reaction militia receive an annual recognition bonus of 6,000 euros. The reaction militia is currently located at three locations: Amstetten (Lower Austria), Horn (Lower Austria) and Spittal an der Drau (K).
The reaction militia was launched in 2023. Militia soldiers are men and women who continue to take on tasks in the Federal Army following their basic military or training service. Militia soldiers can serve in a variety of capacities and regularly participate in militia exercises each year. Training and further education take place on an ongoing basis. Through their military commitment they are making their contribution to protecting Austria.
