REACTION: Max Verstappen admits defeat in Zandvoort: “You always hope to do better”

Max Verstappen failed to score his fourth consecutive victory in Zandvoort this afternoon. The Dutchman took the lead from polesitter Lando Norris right at the start. It looked like Verstappen the race, but after eighteen laps he lost the lead to Norris, who won by more than twenty seconds. Verstappen is of course disappointed that he could not give his home crowd a victory, but acknowledges that McLaren and Norris were simply too fast.

“You always hope to do better,” he begins in conversation with his compatriot in front of the Formula 1 camera. Giedo van der Garde“We had a pretty good start and we really tried everything, but it was clear that we just weren’t fast enough.”

After Verstappen lost the lead, knew it would be impossible to regain it: “After that I did my best to get second. I knew we would have a good start here, and luckily we did. After that I rode my own race and that was enough for second place.”
