Razer unveils Android game console ‘Laser Edge’

On the 15th local time, Razer unveiled the new Android game machine ‘Razer Edge’ at ‘RazerCon’, an event to introduce its new products.

The appearance of the Razer Edge is close to that of a typical bar-type smartphone. Here, the company’s smartphone controller Razer Kissy V2 Pro is installed. As you can see from the fact that it is equipped with a Razer Kish V2 Pro, the Razer Edge has a detachable controller similar to the Nintendo Switch. As the touch screen is also supported, when playing touch-oriented Android games, you can enjoy the game with the controller detached, or attach the controller only when sophisticated controls are needed.

The AP mounted on the Razer Edge is the Snapdragon G3x Gen1 newly developed for mobile game consoles in collaboration with Qualcomm. It is a chipset equipped with an octa-core 3GHz Cairo CPU and features an active cooling function specially designed to maintain high frame rates even when playing for a long time.

The RAM is 8 GB LPDDR5 and the storage space is 128 GB. There is no high-capacity model, and it can be expanded up to 2TB via micro SD. The display is similar to the latest smartphone. AMOLED 6.8-inch FHD+ (2400×1080) resolution and 144Hz support for comfortable play. The battery capacity is 5,000 mAh, and the weight is 264 g by itself and 401 g with a controller attached.

As it is an Android game console, Android games are fully supported, and in the case of PC and Xbox, it is possible to enjoy it through cloud gaming services or streaming functions.

The Razer Edge is available in three models: Wi-Fi model, 5G model, and Founders Edition. There is almost no difference in the hardware specifications of each model. Except for the fact that only the 5G model is equipped with a 5G chipset, it is safe to say that there is virtually none. All models include the Razer Kissy V2 Pro, only to the extent that the Founders Edition includes an additional Razer Hammerhead True Wireless 2021.

The Razer Edge is scheduled to be released overseas in January 2023. The Wi-Fi model is $399 (regarding 570,000 Korean won), the Founders Edition is $499 (regarding 720,000 Korean won), and the price of the 5G model has not been decided.
