Rays win in Boston behind Kiermaier

BOSTON — Kevin Kiermaier hit a three-run double early in the game and tied the tie with an RBI grounder as part of a four-run sixth inning drive, as the Tampa Bay Rays beat Tuesday 8-4. to the Boston Red Sox.

Cuban Yandy Diaz added three singles and one RBI for Tampa Bay, which equaled one win per side in this series of three duels between two teams from the American League East Division.

Xander Bogaerts and Trevor Story homered for Boston, while JD Martinez had a pair of doubles and a single.

The Red Sox had a string of five wins at home before the Rays snapped their streak in a rain that began in the seventh inning and ended when Jason Adam, Tampa Bay’s sixth pitcher, retired Story for the final out.

Ryan Thompson (2-2), who relieved starter Jeffrey Springs in the fifth inning, got the win.

The loser was Nick Pivetta (8-6), with a job of five and two-thirds innings, in which he allowed seven runs and eight hits. He gave away two walks and prescribed four strikeouts.

For the Rays, Cubans Diaz 4-3 with a run scored and one produced, Randy Arozarena 4-1 with a run scored. Colombian Harold Ramírez 5-1 with a run scored. Dominican Wander Franco 2-1 with three runs scored. Mexican Isaac Paredes 5-2 with an RBI. Venezuelan René Pinto 4-2 with one scored and one produced.

For the Red Sox, Puerto Rican Christian Vázquez 4-0. Dominican Franchy Cordero 3-0.
