Retro products are interesting in themselves, but they become even more so when they are useful in some way. O RayCue 128K It is a device that fulfills this requirement well, but it is much more than that, functioning as a true “does it all” object, while adding a good layer of decoration to your work desk.
Inspired by the iconic macintosh from 1984 (yes, the one in the commercial) and even featuring a “keyboard” that further expands its connections, RayCue has the differentiated proposal of being, at the same time, a powerful docking stationone dongle USB, a digital “display” and a Bluetooth speaker.
Starting by talking regarding the RayCue 128K Dockwhich is the “main part of the product”, it has a port for TF/SD cards (which simulates the Macintosh’s floppy disk input), two USB-A 3.0, one USB-C and a 3.0 audio output. 5mm on the front.
When we go to the back, there are 3 USB-A ports (one of them 3.0), two HDMI, one host USB-C, one for networking (RJ45) and one for a 5.5mm power connector.
On the front, the dock has a fully functional screen that can be configured simply to display the time or even to play a photo slide (like a digital photo frame).
A Pro version of the RayCue 128K also has a speaker, which can be used to play music via Bluetooth, and an additional HDMI port on the back — in addition to allowing devices to be recharged with up to 100W of power and supporting configuration via app .
Another interesting possibility with the 128K Dock is to connect up to three external monitors (two, in the basic version) in 4K resolution at 60Hz — which requires the installation of DisplayLink software on the computer.
RayCue 128K Pocket
If you want an even more complete experience (both in visual terms and in the number of supported ports), you can purchase the RayCue 128K Pocketwhich simulates the Macintosh “keyboard” and works as a dongle USB.
Even though it’s very small, it has a TF/SD port and two USB-A 3.0 ports on the front, as well as two USB-C ports on the back (one of them, Power Delivery with power of up to 60W) and an HDMI — which already makes it possible to expand the connections of a MacBook, for example.
Neither version of the RayCue 128K has been released, but the product has been made available in Kickstarter campaign and its production has already been completely financed by supporters on the platform.
Although delivery forecasts are not until December, ordering the product in advance guarantees a good discount for those interested.
Currently, the entry-level RayCue 128K is shipping US$170 and the Pro version by US$200. If you also want to purchase the RayCue 128K Pocket, the purchase costs US$230 in the basic version and US$250 in the Pro version.
