Raveendran’s lease revoked: Govt, LDF say no backtracking Idukki

Thiruvananthapuram / Thodupuzha സർ The government and the LDF have stated that they will not back down from the decision to cancel all the Raveendran Pattas in Munnar and issue new titles to the deserving. Although MM Mani MLA and CPI Idukki district leadership are once morest it, the CPM and CPI state leadership are with the decision of the Revenue Department. The government directed the Idukki Collector to take further steps. From Monday, the lease revocation process will begin under the leadership of the Collector and other revenue and survey officials.

The Revenue Department and the CPM and CPI state leadership have made it clear that the decision taken by the cabinet in 2019 is being implemented now and nothing more. The legal advice received by the government in 2019 itself was that there was no other option but to cancel the lease as it was issued without following the procedures. When a new lease is issued, it will be examined whether Raveendran was eligible when he received the lease in the past. This is what worries many. Those who owned more than the allotted land and had a high family income on that day would be disqualified.

In the first phase, 33 pattas were examined and 5 were found to be ineligible and the decision on the new patta was postponed. Preliminary assessment is that there was no violation of rules in allotting 25 cents of land to MM Money MLA. The Munnar Area Committee office was later built on this land. Land was also leased for the resort.

The CPM and CPI leaders in Idukki are upset that no action has been taken once morest those who used the leased land for commercial purposes and the lease of those who use the lease for their own use has been revoked. This is one of the reasons why district leaders are taking a public stand once morest the government’s decision. The cancellation will affect 530 people. The application for the new title should be made to the Devikulam Tehsildar. However, Collector Sheeba George said it had not been decided whether to accept the applications.

MM Money did not object then

The cabinet, which also included MM Mani, who came out yesterday once morest the order to cancel the Raveendran lease, has decided to cancel the lease in 2019. MM Mani, the then minister, did not oppose the decision of the cabinet which met on August 7, 2019 during the first Pinarayi government. The government then issued a detailed order. And now the answer. In his affidavit while contesting the assembly elections in 2016, Mani stated that he had bought 21 cents of land in Idukki Devikulam KDH village. The affidavit states that the CPM has constructed the Munnar Area Committee building on 13,500 square feet, the value of the land and the building is Rs 2 crore and the rent is being collected by the CPM.
