Ravago and Repsol announced today, Tuesday, the opening of a new factory for automobile components in the Tangier Med industrial platform, specializing in the production of plastic parts for cars.
The opening ceremony of the factory, which is located in the Automotive Equipment City (Tangier Automotive City), took place in the presence of the Minister of Industry and Trade, Riad Mazour, the Consul General of Spain in Tangier, officials of the Tangier Med Group, representatives of public administrations and economic actors.
This industrial unit, which extends over an area of 24 thousand square meters, specializes in the manufacture and production of polypropylene (PP) components, which is considered one of the most widely used technical materials in the automotive sector, in addition to polyamide and polybutene components, polyamide terephthalate (PBT), and polyamide compounds and alloys.
This expansion will enable the company to meet the demand of local customers, especially car manufacturers such as Renault Group and Stellantis Group, which have supported the project since its launch.
Repsol and Ravago’s investment in this factory, amounting to 20 million euros, is considered a strategic measure aimed at supporting the international expansion of the two groups thanks to products with high added value directed at the automotive industry.
It is expected that the production capacity will reach 18,500 tons annually, intended for export mainly to European markets, with the possibility of increasing this capacity in the future.
Mr. Mazour stressed, in a statement on the occasion, that the opening of this factory is “a new episode in the development of the national industrial system that has witnessed great success and development, and which has reached a high level of quality and competitiveness thanks to the royal patronage,” highlighting that the factory specializes in the manufacture of “polypropylene.” It is considered the main component in many plastic parts used in the automobile industry.
In this context, the Minister indicated that the factory will meet approximately 30 percent of the needs of the national automobile industry sector, highlighting that this production unit is the result of a partnership between two global pioneers in the field, a Spanish pioneer in developing this type of polymers and a Belgian pioneer in the field of materials recycling. Plastic, including Repsol and Ravago.
Mr. Mazour concluded that the Tangier factory “would strengthen the competitiveness of the automotive industry system in Morocco and enhance the national industry’s orientation towards sustainability in implementation of the High Royal Directives.”
For his part, Antonio Portella, Director of Polyolefins at Repsol, said, “Our cooperation with Ravago in the region allows us to optimally integrate into the value chain of the local automotive sector in Morocco,” adding that “we will continue to invest in automotive materials and increase our production capacity to provide an optimal service for producing Parts needed for models assembled in the factories of Tangier, Kenitra and Casablanca.”
He said, “We believe that this partnership will enable us to strengthen our presence in the region and provide our customers with high-quality materials to meet their needs in the automotive sector.”
For his part, Director General of the Tangier Med Regions (TMZ), Ahmed Bennis, highlighted that the stability of the Repsol-Ravago project in the Tangier Med industrial platform indicates a continued commitment to increasing the rate of local integration of the automotive industry, adding that “this initiative embodies our determination to contribute effectively to improving the competitiveness of the automotive industry.” Our industrial system.”
For his part, Manuel Gayo, Commercial Director of Ravago Manufacturing Company in the European region, considered that “this is a major stage in Ravago’s growth strategy in the field of plastic components, while continuing to keep pace with our customers regarding solutions to meet their increasing requirements.”
The new factory benefits from its proximity to the main suppliers in the automotive sector, especially those based in the Tangier Med industrial platform, in addition to the logistical infrastructure available to facilitate direct access to international markets.
Through this industrial unit, the two groups join a strong system that is considered a very competitive player in the automotive industry value chain.
It is noteworthy that Repsol is a global multi-energy group that leads the energy transition and aspires to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. The group is present along the energy value chain, employs 24 thousand people in the world, and distributes its products in regarding 90 countries.
While the Ravago Group, since its establishment in 1961, has been providing the service of distributing, reselling and manufacturing automotive components and recycling plastic materials. It has 19 recycling and component manufacturing plants with a total annual capacity of more than one million metric tons.
