Redfall was set to become the new hit for Microsoft’s AAA exclusive games. But the ratings agree, the vampire shooter falls through on Metacritic.

Hamburg – Microsoft wanted to wipe out Sony and show that the company can also bring high-quality exclusive titles for Xbox and PC. Right following the release of Redfall, however, there were negative reviews for the latest adventure from Arkane Studios. The reviews sometimes don’t even get a final rating. What do the tests criticize and what does the value fear mirror look like on Metacritic?

Xbox promises: don’t want to “take anything away” from gamers – and secretly kills Redfall for PS5

This is what tests, reviews and Metacritic say regarding Redfall: The new video game Redfall was released on May 2, 2023 – the horror spectacle comes from the well-known studio Arkane. The developers have contributed to Bioshock 2 and created acclaimed titles like Deathloop or Dishonored. But the reviews of her new vampire adventure Redfall are like a bloodbath.

Punctually on May 2nd, the test embargoes were lifted and the internet was flooded with reviews of Redfall. This is what the feedback from Metacritic and well-known editors looks like at a glance:

Metacritic 64 (Xbox) and 62 (PC)
IGN No final rating
GameStar No final rating
Gamespot 4/10
Screen Rant 70 / 100
Dexerto 40/100
Gamesradar+ 50/100
Dualshockers 85/100
VG247 3,5/5

What are the critics complaining regarding? Several well-known critics and magazines have decided not to rate Redfall at all. The reasons are, for example, that the game was only available in the editorial offices shortly before release (very late test samples are often a warning sign). Many testers hardly had enough time to get a comprehensive picture of the new AAA game.

Most of the time, however, there are already warnings in the unfinished reviews and Redfall does not come off well in the final tests.

  • Gamespot: “Redfall shouldn’t have been released yet […] Arkane tries to inject its own style into the hip genre, but the end result is a bloody mess.”
  • Forbes: “The reviews of ‘Redfall’ are in, and they’re a bloodbath.”
  • GamesRadar: “Ultimately, Redfall doesn’t live up to Arkane’s usual standards. It feels rushed, unfinished and unsatisfying to play.”
  • GamingBolt: “Redfall is Arkane’s underwhelming game so far.”
  • According to almost all reviews, one of the few positive aspects of Redfall is that the game is fortunately free directly with Xbox Game Pass.
  • In general, according to most tests, Redfall seems unfinished, there are technical flaws and incomprehensible decisions that do not belong in any online game in 2023 (like the lack of a quick game search).
  • The opinions of the players themselves are not yet available on Metacritic. It’s possible that users will give Redfall higher ratings, but we don’t expect too many surprises.

The critics find it a pity that Redfall is basically fun. The framework, the partly fresh ideas and gameplay are there. However, everything is blocked by half-baked decisions. By the way, that’s how we rated Redfall at ingame.de.

Redfall isn’t coming to PS5, so what? But by doing so, Microsoft is jeopardizing its $69 billion deal

Redfall as a weapon in the fight once morest Sony: Microsoft has been longing for a really cool exclusive game for a long time. While Sony wins prizes every year with heavyweights like God of War, Horizon or Demon’s Souls, the Xbox suffers tremendously here. While Starfiled is somewhere on the horizon, Redfall should now show that Microsoft offers exclusive treats even following the expensive purchases.

It is doubly tragic that Redfall now fails in the reviews or at best is mediocrely amused. Because Redfall is said to have originally been developed for PlayStation. But the developers revealed that Microsoft bought the exclusivity with the big bills. But Sony should be grateful for this, because the group has been given a weapon in the fight for the billion-dollar deal with Activision-Blizzard.
