The Premier of Quebec, François Legault, is committed to limiting the increase in electricity rates for next year.

In a press scrum at the National Assembly on Tuesday, he assured that there would be no “4-5% increase” in Hydro-Québec rates in April 2023.
It is that a significant increase was to be expected due to the Law on Electricity Tariffs adopted by his government in 2019. The latter linked electricity tariffs to the rate of inflation, a figure which recently reached peaks unmatched for several years.
“In the past it has often happened that electricity rates have increased by a higher percentage than inflation and we wanted to limit the increase in rates to inflation. On the other hand, we had not expected that there might be inflation at 4-5%,” explained François Legault.
He therefore undertakes to “correct” the situation with “the best way so that the middle class does not suffer from this inflation”.
