The PC now holds an important place in Sony’s strategy. To give a second life to its blockbusters, the firm offers ports of exclusive PlayStation console games on PC with, usually, a good quality of realization. This time it’s the turn of Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart to arrive on Steam and Epic Games Store from July 26, 2023, in the heart of summer. The PC version was overseen by Nixxes Software, a studio dedicated to the exercise acquired by Sony in 2021.

A port full of technology

While waiting for the launch in July, the development studio is already making great promises about the technologies embedded in its port. The press release notably mentions full support for Nvidia DLSS 3, AMD FSR 2 et Intel XeSS as well as Insomniac Games’ in-house time injection technology (IGT) used on the console version. In all four cases and regardless of your configuration, you should be able to increase rendering performance.

This will probably be necessary in order to enable support for the ray tracing and 21:9, 32:9 and 48:9 ultrawide aspect ratios. Finally, the press release mentions the possibility of “ unlock frame rate “. We imagine that this is to ensure compatibility with screens that can go up to 120, 144, 240 or even 360 Hz.

PC requires, the game will offer full compatibility with the keyboard and mouse, but support for the DualSense controller will still be there, especially for haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

On the other hand, Sony does not explain how the game will adapt the very particular storage management of the PS5. Indeed Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart was one of the first games exclusive to Sony’s new console that used the capabilities of its SSD. On PC, Microsoft’s Direct Storage technology should make it possible to model the use of the PS5’s SSD, but there is no trace of it in Sony’s communication at this stage.
