“Rare Syndrome Makes Man Relive Every Day – A Case Study and Analysis”

According a new case study published in the BMJ, a man has developed a rare syndrome that makes him feel “to have already lived everything”.

Each day is a repeat of the previous day

The 80-year-old was taken into care following he complained that he knew the outcome of all his readings in advance and had already seen all his television programmes.

“Every day is a repeat of the previous day… Every television session is the same”, he then explained to the doctors. “Wherever I go, for example, the same people are on the side of the road, and the same cars are behind me with the same drivers inside… nothing is new”, he developed.

This disease, although rare, has been described many times in the scientific literature. The BMJ team notes that one of the first case reports that called her a “pathological form of deja vu” was published in 1896.

Further analyzes also showed that the patient was developing the first signs of Alzheimer’s disease, suffering from mental confusion and memory problems.

Tendency to invent stories

“This pathological form of deja vu is usually complicated by the development of a tendency to make up stories to provide seemingly logical explanations for one’s predicament (i.e. the delusional belief that one has actually experienced his life before). The ensuing conflicts with the social environment and the inability to meet professional and domestic demands can lead to secondary pathology such as a depressive disorder or psychosis”, add the doctors.

After attempting to treat the old man via immunotherapy, they unfortunately found that it had no effect.
