The family of Emirati girl “Hind” has lost hope of fixing the severe curve and curve in her spine.
This feeling infiltrated the family following doctors told her, following a medical trip to Germany regarding seven years ago, that having her surgery means that she has two options, which are either she will be discharged from the surgery or paralyzed.
During the past seven years, the problem was increasing with the progression of the now 18-year-old girl in growth, which added difficulty to a condition that was originally difficult, but a glimmer of hope appeared months ago for that family, when she read “Hind” on a social networking site. About the skill of an Egyptian surgeon in this type of critical surgical intervention.
The Emirati family, worried regarding their daughter, did not waste time and headed to the Egyptian capital, Cairo, to present the girl’s case to the surgeon who specializes in scoliosis, Hani Abdel Gawad, assistant professor at the Faculty of Medicine – Al-Azhar University.
After conducting the necessary examinations and studying the case, Abdul-Gawad’s decision was to venture into this surgery, which his peers in Germany rejected, and success was his ally.
Abdel-Gawad announced on his Facebook page the success of the surgery, which is the first of its kind, due to the meeting of a group of problems in this case, which is the small weight of the girl (37 kilograms), which means that the amount of blood she has is low, and this surgery, by its nature, results in the loss of A large amount of blood, as well as the combination of convexity with warp, and the effect on breathing functions.
Abdel-Gawad told Al-Ain Al-Akhbariya: “For the second time in my life, I have moments when I feel that I made the wrong decision to perform the surgery. For a moment, I close the wound once more, and I apologize to the (Hind) family for not completing the surgery, because it might be, as the German doctors said, the choice of paralysis or death.”
Abdel-Gawad made his decision quickly following recalling the human scenes that preceded the surgery, beginning with the presence of the girl’s family in Cairo, and her mother telling him that “Hind has dreamed of you since I read regarding your achievements in this type of operation, and I know that there is no solution, but I brought it to you.” So that she might hear these words herself.” Then he actually realized that the operation was almost impossible, and took the decision to take an adventure following finding the girl with a glimmer of hope that God would write her healing on his hands, and ending with the day before the surgery when the girl entered a fit of crying out of fear. of its consequences, but he promised her to do his utmost to get out of it while she was on her feet.
Abdul-Gawad charged his energy with these scenes, and resumed his work, recalling all the experiences he went through, to spend six hours of hard work in this surgery (from nine in the evening until three in the morning), to finish it successfully, and published at ten in the morning on his Facebook page as usual. , Portrait of a girl, walking on her feet.
Abdul-Gawad says: “Today was the most difficult day of my life, and thank God, it passed well, and the happiness of the Hind family with the success of the operation gave me a positive energy that I did not feel throughout my life. She is crying hysterically with joy, she has lived for 18 years, and she can’t imagine that moment might come.”
