Every year the US government prints and gives life to billions of dollars in cash. However, in the endless dance of banknote production, occasionally the symphony goes out of tune and unforeseen errors arise.

An episode that illustrates this phenomenon took place in July 2016, when the Bureau of Engraving and Printing issued a request to its facilities in Fort Worth. The particularity of this request was that it was an exact replica of the one previously sent to its counterparts in Washington DC in November 2014.
The result of this unusual act of duplication resulted in the existence of 6.4 million one-dollar bills with identical serial numbers, even though, by definition, each serial number should be unique. The error impregnated these dollars with a value that far exceeds their face value, due to the interest of collectors.

However, it’s crucial to keep in mind that in the vast sea of US coins in circulation, the chances of coming across two identical bills are very low… but it might happen. And there is reward.
There are so many one-dollar bills in the world that it is almost impossible to have a precise figure of how many are currently in circulation, but it is estimated that there are between 12.5 and 14.4 billion. In this “ocean” of banknotes, the possibility of having two identical ones in your wallet is tiny, but always greater than zero.

To recognize two twin dollars, certain details must be observed. On the one hand, you must observe the serial number, which appears on the far right of the effigy of George Washington, and proclaims to be from the “2013 Series.”

The bill displays the Federal Reserve Seal “B,” resting above the serial number, which is also located to the right of the image of Washington.
The serial number is extinguished with an asterisk
y reside en el rango de B00000001-B00250000* o B03200001*-B09600000*.
If you come across one of these peculiar one-dollar bills, unfortunately, you have not yet reached the pinnacle of fortune. It becomes necessary, later, to find another copy of a dollar, also a victim of printing defects, that matches the same characteristics and that is found in some corner of the world. Only then will you own a true gem.
According to the Wealthy Nickel website, the auction value of duplicate dollars can range from $20,000 to $150,000, depending on the condition of the bill and its serial number. Of course, you must go to the right place and first of all, prove the veracity of the bills.
This is not the first time that the United States has made mistakes in issuing dollars. Failures at the time of minting a coin or particular circumstances of an edition can cause rare editions to be generated that are highly coveted by collectors who transform them into prized objects: some can sell for between USD 25 and USD 25,000 according to the luck of the find.
You can get, for example, between USD 100 and USD 1,500 for obtaining one of the thousands of Wisconsin quarter coins minted in 2004, which were marked with an extra leaf on a corn plant – some speculate that an employee of the Mint did it on purpose.
Likewise, in 2005 the US Mint recovered the old bison design on the reverse of the Jefferson nickel – 5 cent coin. However, multiple minting errors were found throughout its first months of circulation. One of the most famous is the “Speared Bison Nickel,” which was the result of a poorly placed die cut across the buffalo resembling a spear going through the animal (hence the name).
Upon discovery, it was immediately sold for over $100 gross. Its price has not changed much since then, but in 2010 at an auction one of them sold for $1,265.
Likewise, you can find many other “special” coins and bills that multiply their original value exponentially.
