Two necklaces dating back to 2500 were found by chance in northwest Spain last month.
Sergio Marciandi was working for a water treatment company in the town of Cacandi on August 29 when he saw a shiny object among the rocks, reports CNN.
He then shared his discovery with a professor of prehistoric archaeology, Pablo Arias, from the University of Cantabria, who, following being dispatched to the scene, discovered pieces of a second similar necklace.
The professor explains that given that the site where they were found has remained intact all these years, the work of researchers is facilitated in determining the context in which they were created and used.
“It’s really impressive,” explains Mr. Arias. We have very specific information regarding where they were found, which is somewhat exceptional.”
The researcher suggests that the objects contain traces which would confirm that they were worn at the time.
“We know they were used,” he said in an interview with CNN.
This find might allow scientists to discover new details regarding this little-known era in European history.
