Rapper Fatman Scoop died on stage

Several in the audience captured the moment the rapper collapsed while on stage. Bystanders tried to give him CPR before an ambulance took him to the hospital on Friday where he unfortunately ended up.

His tour manager announced his death on Saturday, saying he had “run out of words”. “Last night, the world lost a shining soul, a beacon of light on stage and in life,” the family said. “She was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength and courage,” she writes. His representative told the BBC that he collapsed on stage in the middle of his set at Town Center Park in Hamden. Mayor Lauren Garrett said in a Facebook post that the rapper was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

The rapper was born in New York in 1971, and rose to fame through his collaborations with mega-stars such as Missy Elliot and Mariah Carey in the early 2000s.

Fatman Scoop was a major figure in the New York hip-hop scene in the 1990s. His appearance on Missy Elliott’s “Lose Control” earned him a Grammy Award for Best Music Video Short Form and a nomination for Best Rap Song.

During his career, he also collaborated with several artists, including Timbaland, Skrillex and Ciara. His biggest personal hit, “Be Faithful”, was released in 1999 and entered the Top 25 on the Billboard Rap Songs chart.

Fatman Scoop was expected to feature on A$AP Rocky’s upcoming album, ‘Don’t Be Dumb’, on a song titled ‘Hood Happy’.

In 2004, he took part in the British TV series ‘Chancers’ on Channel 4, where musicians mentored up-and-coming British artists who wanted to make it in the US. In 2015, he participated in ‘Celebrity Big Brother 16: UK vs USA’ where he was the third player to leave the house.

His tour manager, DJ Pure Cold, wrote in an Instagram post that he was “speechless” at the news of his friend’s death. “You’ve taken me all over the world and had me perform with you on some of the biggest and greatest stages on this planet,” he wrote. “The things you taught me have really made me the person I am today.”

Fatman Scoop was due to perform at the UK’s Reminisce festival on September 7th. In a post on Instagram, the festival described the news of his death as “overwhelming”. “He wasn’t just one of our most popular artists, he was a beloved member of the Reminisce family. His energy, talent and infectious spirit will be missed more than words can express.”
