Rapper Celebrates Album Anniversary with Vinyl Reissue and Animated Music Video
In celebration of his eighth studio album’s anniversary, the rapper has re-released it on vinyl, accompanied by a captivating music video for the title track.
“The visualization of the title song of the album “1979” turned out to be one of the most labor-intensive clips,” says the rapper. “It happened gradually. We started filming quite spontaneously already in October 2023, when the song was still only in the development process, and such a time-consuming “post production” was not planned. But then came the idea of this urban environment animation, which turned out to be a very long process in the end. In several stages, Andreja and I went to the city to continue making these animations in one of Riga’s streets. A lot of work, but I’m happy with the result!”
Video artist Andrejs Skurjats, who has previously collaborated with the rapper on videos such as “Superhyps”, “Style”, and “Eternity”, this time used animation as one of the main techniques, which is manually integrated into the urban environment as well as created on a computer. Car drift representatives, one of the brightest BMX riders Krists Kaņuks, as well as dancer Dāgs Zvirgzdiņš also took part in the making of the video.
A Nostalgic Journey Through Sound and Vision
Just a year ago, in December, the rapper released “1979,” an album infused with nostalgia and raw emotion. A testament to his dedication to his craft, the album features a number of notable figures from the domestic hip-hop scene, many of whom have been collaborating with the artist since the very beginning of his musical journey.
To honor the album’s anniversary, “1979” has been reissued on vinyl, offering fans a tangible connection to this significant work. This release coincides with the debut of a visually stunning music video for the album’s title track, further enhancing the immersive experience.
The video, a testament to the power of collaboration, seamlessly blends urban landscapes with animated elements. The result is a captivating visual feast that complements the evocative lyrics and melodies of the song. Skurjats’s innovative use of animation, intricately woven into real-world settings, elevates the video to a new level of artistry. The inclusion of car drift representatives, BMX rider Krists Kaņuks, and dancer Dāgs Zvirgzdiņš adds dynamism and a layer of street-culture authenticity to the visuals.
How did the rapper’s vision for the animated music video for “1979” evolve throughout the creative process?
