Appeared twice, lost twice: Rapid doesn’t have any good memories of TSV Hartberg‘s guest appearances at the Allianz Stadium in the last Bundesliga season. This is not the only indication that the Styrians are rightly classified as fearful opponents. They won five times in the league against the Viennese team; the club has not managed to do so more often in any other away stadium in the Oberhausen. There is also the coaching effect: under Manfred Schmid, all three games ended victoriously.
Three points were scored against WSG Tirol (1:0), Altach (2:0) and in Wolfsberg (3:2). There were no defeats six times in a row, and if there were another game, it would be a new TSV record in the Bundesliga. However, achieving this will be a difficult task, especially since the Viennese have been unbeaten for a long time across all competitions with eight games and, as second in the table, one point behind after nine rounds, are the first pursuers of table leaders Sturm Graz. Hartberg has played one game less and is six points behind the Viennese in sixth place.
“Not that much has changed for them under the new coach. What Hartberg did in the last two years was good. Now there has been a small adaptation in the game against the ball, with the ball there are similar processes and they have them “Certainly a lot of self-confidence,” said Rapid coach Robert Klauß. The two home defeats against the Styrians in 2023/24 would not provide any extra motivation. “The last games were a long time ago, that has little meaning,” emphasized the German.
For his team, which scored 13 out of 15 possible points in the league at home, it is the start of a series of seven games within three weeks. “You can do well for three games in a row, but from the fourth onwards it becomes difficult, so you have to see when to rotate. It may well be necessary to give players in the Conference League a break,” explained Klauß. Isak Jansson is not an issue for the time being. “Next week there will be a check to see how progress is. If the trend remains positive, then he can get back into team training,” Rapid’s coach gave insight.
Striker Ryan Mmae’s debut could take a while longer due to muscular problems. Another summer addition, Tobias Börkeeiet, has to be in place at least next week. The recovered Furkan Dursun, Thierry Gale and Jakob Schöller, who, like Tobias Hedl, are gaining match practice with the second team, are not among the professionals. During the international break, the Rapid team focused on the game in the final third. “We have a lot of dominance and put in a lot of effort, but the goal tally doesn’t match that yet,” said Klauß.
The goals conceded record is satisfactory; with nine, Rapid is number one in the league, followed by Hartberg (10). The Styrians will have to be without Justin Omoregie for a longer period due to a thigh injury he suffered with the ÖFB U21 team. The successful run should still be continued. “If you win three times in a row, then you want to do it a fourth time. We have already gained enough self-confidence and the realistic realization that we can also play a really good game away against Rapid,” said Schmid.
The rapid dress rehearsal before Thursday’s European Cup home game against the Armenian club FC Noah will be held with the usual lighting. At the beginning of 2025, this will be done entirely using LED lights in the Allianz Stadium, as the Hütteldorfer announced on Friday. “By changing the lighting, we are further developing our club and taking another step on the path to modernization. In addition, we are not only reducing our CO2 emissions and our operating costs, but are also saving 35 percent of our electricity costs per year,” said Wirtschafts- Managing Director Marcus Knipping.
