Sudan – Local sources in the city of Al-Dinder in Sennar State in southeastern Sudan told Al Jazeera yesterday, Wednesday, that hundreds of people were displaced from villages north of the city to the city of Al-Qadarif.
The sources added that the displaced people used traditional Nile boats to cross the Dinder River eastward following elements of the Rapid Support Forces entered the villages north of Dinder and fired random bullets in the middle of residential neighborhoods and stole cars from citizens, in addition to beating and torturing young men.
She pointed out that most of the displaced people are children, women and the elderly who headed east to Gadarif on foot following the power and communications network were cut off and roads were disrupted as a result of the rains.
According to statistics from volunteer initiatives, the number of displaced people who arrived from Sennar State to the city of Gedaref exceeds 60,000, a number that exceeds the city’s capacity.
The state’s emergency room revealed that displaced people from Sennar State were spread across 30 locations in the city, while more than 300 people were forced to take shelter under umbrellas inside the cemeteries.
On another note, various local sources reported that the defenses of the Third Division in the city of Shendi, located regarding 200 kilometers north of Khartoum, intercepted 3 drones of unknown origin at dawn on Wednesday that were targeting the army command buildings in the city.
Sources suggested that the Rapid Support Forces were behind this military operation, although no official statement was issued by the forces claiming responsibility for the attack.
