SK Rapid is keen on the end of the season. The Viennese have survived the difficult phase following the derby once morest Austria, are still undefeated this year, have reached the championship group and made it to the final of the Austrian Cup. “We had a difficult time, but we got through it well,” said sports director Markus Katzer on Thursday.
Katzer was referring to the many bans that were imposed following the derby scandal. This didn’t set the Hütteldorfers back in terms of sport. “We’re having a really good spring, not just in terms of results, but also the way we played. We deserved to be in third place,” the managing director praised the team around coach Robert Klauß.
Before Austria Klagenfurt’s guest appearance on Sunday (5 p.m.), the lead over their pursuers in the championship group is a maximum of three points. “We haven’t accomplished anything yet, we’ve just completed small milestones. Klagenfurt can beat any opponent in the league. We have to stay humble,” emphasized Katzer. It is still unclear whether Marco Grüll can also be there on Sunday. The striker is slightly injured and will return to training on Friday. “I think things are looking pretty good,” said Klauss optimistically regarding the effort.
The current good mood in the club might also be felt at a special press conference on Thursday. Klauß, Katzer, his managing director colleague Steffen Hofmann and professional Christoph Lang answered questions from 14 “greenies”, i.e. young Rapid fans, in a good mood for around an hour. At the end there was a round of ice cream, with which Lang made up for his slight delay, to the delight of the young fans.
