Container throughput at Chinese ports rose 4.8 percent year-on-year in the first five months of the year, according to data from the Ministry of Transportation.
A total of 122.07 million twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containers were handled at ports nationwide during the period, the ministry said.
The cargo volume in Chinese ports stood at 6.75 billion tons during the period, up 7.9 percent from the same period last year. Specifically, foreign trade container throughput at these ports increased by 8.5% year-on-year.
In May alone, cargo volume at Chinese ports rose 9 percent year on year, and container throughput at these ports rose 4.8 percent, according to the data.
