Rapid gave away two points in the 14th round of the Bundesliga. The second-placed Hütteldorfer couldn’t get more than a 0-0 away draw against WSG Tirol on Saturday, and are already five points behind leaders Sturm Graz and missed out on their third competitive win in a row despite a clear increase in chances. As tenth in the table, the WSG initially extended its lead over the laggard duo Altach and GAK, who will be in action on Sunday, to four points.
The first offensive action of the game belonged to the home team in front of 2,450 spectators. Tobias Anselm appeared alone in the Rapid penalty area, but was denied by goalie Niklas Hedl. During this action, the assistant’s flag went up, but the goal would probably not have been disallowed for offside, as TV pictures suggested.
Quickly superior, but missed chances
After that, only Rapid played, but they didn’t pay enough attention to the end goal. The Tyroleans isolated themselves in front of their penalty area, and the Hütteldorfers’ ball relays often proved to be a hopeless art. Nevertheless, it became dangerous at one point or another: Bendeguz Bolla used Dion Beljo, whose cross was maneuvered by Matthias Seidl towards the goal with a direct shot from the chest, but WSG keeper Adam Stejskal was on the post (28th). Five minutes later, Louis Schaub hit the bar with a shot on the move.
Even after the break, the Green-Whites continued to work on their defensive opponents – without success. Beljo had already overcome Stejskal, but Jamie Lawrence saved from the line (52′), and Guido Burgstaller missed the far corner (64′). In the finish, Rapid was no longer able to create any danger, which meant they missed their twelfth win in their 13th competitive game duel with the Tyroleans and are still only holding on to one away win this league season. The fact that the Rapid team have now been unbeaten for ten rounds was probably little consolation for the guests.

How does the recent draw against WSG Tirol impact Rapid Vienna’s chances of competing for the Bundesliga title against Sturm Graz?
**Interview with Sports Analyst on Rapid Vienna’s Latest Bundesliga Match**
**Date: November 23, 2024**
**Interviewer**: Thank you for joining us today! Let’s talk about Rapid Vienna’s recent match against WSG Tirol which ended in a 0-0 draw. What are your initial reactions to the game?
**Guest**: Thanks for having me! It was a disappointing result for Rapid Vienna, given their position in the Bundesliga. They had a chance to close the gap on leaders Sturm Graz, but failing to secure a win means they lose valuable points at this stage of the season.
**Interviewer**: Rapid Vienna is currently sitting in second place, five points behind Sturm Graz. How critical is it for them to pick up wins in the coming matches to maintain pressure on the leaders?
**Guest**: Absolutely crucial. Each match is important, especially when you’re in a title race. With the season progressing, drawing matches like this one can add stress to the fixtures ahead. They need to find a way to convert their performances into goals. Otherwise, five points can quickly turn into a larger gap if Sturm Graz continues their form.
**Interviewer**: The team’s inability to score was evident in this match. What do you think is causing this struggle in front of goal?
**Guest**: It could be a mix of factors. Sometimes it’s down to tactics—perhaps they’re facing teams that set up defensively against them. Additionally, individual players may be underperforming or lacking confidence in front of the net. They also need to improve their creative play in midfield to provide better goal-scoring opportunities.
**Interviewer**: Given their current form, what should the coaching staff focus on in training sessions leading up to their next match?
**Guest**: They should focus on offensive drills, especially working on finishing and movement off the ball. It’s also important to instill a winning mentality; the team needs to believe they can break down defenses and convert chances. Besides that, analyzing game footage from this match can help identify specific areas where they went wrong.
**Interviewer**: With the Bundesliga being so competitive, do you think Rapid Vienna has what it takes to bounce back and challenge for the title?
**Guest**: They definitely have the potential. It’s all about consistency now. If they can regroup, learn from this draw, and return stronger in their next matches, they can certainly keep the pressure on Sturm Graz. It’s a long season, and teams can fluctuate in form, but Rapid must capitalize on any slip-ups from their rivals.
**Interviewer**: Great insights! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on Rapid Vienna and their challenges in the Bundesliga.
**Guest**: My pleasure! Let’s hope for more exciting matches in the Bundesliga.
