“We all dream of the Moon, we have all read Tintin. Each time I read ‘Objectif Lune’ and ‘We walked on the Moon’, with the Captain, Tintin and Snowy, when they set foot on the always gives me so much emotion”he confides. “But already going to the International Space Station (ISS) would be something extraordinary, we must not sulk our pleasure. If all goes well, it is planned by 2026 to 2030”.
In the training center there is a full size model of the European Colombus module which will go to the ISS and “We believe in it because there are handles to hold on to when we are weightless. The bunks are very small, the size of a sleeping bag. This will be our living space for six months and it is quite impressive”.
The training followed is very versatile: “I am a hot air balloon and glider pilot, which has little to do with rockets, but we are offered to become an airplane pilot as well to broaden our field of skills”.
The other astronauts in training are the French Sophie Adenot, the Spaniard Pablo Álvarez Fernández, the Briton Rosemary Coogan and the Swiss Marco Sieber. This training will continue until the end of May 2024.
