The singer ‘Raphael’ will be awarded an honorary doctorate by a Spanish university, a distinction that the institution considers “fully justified in light of the artist’s exceptional career spanning more than 60 years.”

The award of the title, from the University of Jaén – a province in southern Spain to which Linares belongs, where Raphael was born – recognises the “incontestable merits” of a singer who is considered “living history of Spanish culture”.

‘Raphael’, whose real name is Miguel Rafael Martos Sánchez (1947), is one of the most renowned active Spanish artists.

Long career

In his 65-year career, not counting his filmography, ‘Raphael’ has released 60 albums on the market, with which he has achieved 326 gold records, 49 platinum records and one of the 4 uranium records in existence for sales of more than 50 million copies.

“It is more than just justice that Raphael, an international figure, be awarded an honorary doctorate by the university of his homeland,” said Juan Gómez Ortega, rector of the University of Jaén, a few months ago, when the process of studying the proposal began.

Raphael is currently in the middle of a tour of his show “Victoria 2024”, a tour that has already been on stages in Latin America and is now being presented in multiple cities in Spain.
