The day before yesterday, the lawyer of the 13-year-old girl’s family allegedly called the relevant officers in order for the minor girl to testify additionally. In the presence of a child psychologist, the 13-year-old not only did not withdraw or correct her initial complaint, but added to it a third person, whom she knew, who filmed her rape by the two young men with his mobile phone. Officers handling the case are looking into the presence of this third person, as well as evidence that he had been in contact with the minor girl during the critical period. From the course of the investigation, the responsible officials of EL.AS. examine whether the case of Lesvos has any common characteristics with the case of Colonos, which strongly occupied the public opinion, in October 2022.
The police officers are examining with particular attention whether there is a person who forced the 13-year-old into prostitution for financial exchange, whether someone knew about it and kept silent. There is currently no evidence to confirm this aspect of the investigation, however there is still a lot of police work to be done to rule it out, such as looking for evidence from data recovery on the mobile phones of the two youths who have been reported for the rape.
It is noted that the public prosecutor of Mytilini, in the context of the preliminary investigation, asked the police to confiscate the mobile phones of the two young men, as well as to take statements without trial (seemingly accused). The police called the two young men, confiscated their mobile phones, which were transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for further analysis. This investigation will determine whether there is a need to declassify the communications on the mobile phone of the 13-year-old girl and her relatives.
