A Nature Food study, published on August 18, 2021 by researchers at the University of Michigan School of Public Health analyzed 5,800 foods. This study indicates the salt content, the fat content and the high fiber content of each of them. Thus, they were able to measure the foods that are most harmful to health and which actually reduce life expectancy.
1. Processed meat
It promotes overweight, cholesterol and cardiovascular diseases. It is too high in sodium and saturated fatty acids.
2. Les hot-dogs
The latter would lose 36.3 minutes of life.
3. Sodas
Sodas are also to be avoided. They would make us lose 12.4 minutes of life.
4. The cheeseburgers
As good as they are, cheeseburgers shorten our lives by 8.8 minutes.
5. The pizzas
Who doesn’t like pizza? Yet each pizza shortened life expectancy by 7.8 minutes.
6. Bacons
If it’s the perfect accompaniment to eggs, bacon kills 6.4 minutes of healthy life.
7. Cheddar cheese
As for cheddar, it would reduce life expectancy by 1.4 minutes.
Other foods increase lifespan
Nuts: in case of a little hunger, swallow a handful of nuts. This simple gesture saves us 25 minutes of life. The tomato: it saves 3.8 minutes of life The avocado: which increases the life time by 2.8 minutes of life The salmon cooked like the banana: they both save us 13 minutes of life The butter sandwich peanuts and jam: it saves 33 minutes of life
“The urgency of changing the diet to improve human health and the environment is clear. Our results demonstrate that small, targeted substitutions offer a feasible and powerful strategy to achieve significant health and environmental benefits without requiring dramatic changes in diet,” the researchers conclude.
