Ranji Trophy: First defeat for Kerala – Janayugom Online

Kerala’s first straight defeat of the season in the Ranji Trophy. Goa got their first win by seven wickets.
Chasing a target of 155 runs, Goa lost opener Amoga Desai (23). Vaisakh Chandran was the wicket. Then Suyash Prabhudesai (14) was returned by captain Sijo Mon Joseph. With Snehal Kauthankar(13) and Jalaj Saknay also falling, they faltered at 89-3, but Gadekar(67*) and SD Lad(33*) combined to take Goa to the target without further loss. In the second innings, Jalaj Saxena, Sijomon Joseph and Vysakh Chandran took one wicket each for Kerala.

Earlier, Kerala resumed batting on day four at 172 for six and lost the remaining four wickets while adding 28 more runs. After the century in the first innings, Rohan Prem (70) and Jalaj Saxena (34) who scored half-centuries in the second innings returned soon. At the tail end, only N Basil (16 off 13 balls) held on a bit.

Ishan Gadekar (105) scored a century to give Goa a first innings lead of 46 runs following resuming batting at 200 on the third day of the first innings. Jalaj gave Kerala hope by entangling captain Darshan Misal (43) and Arjun Tendulkar (6) in front of the wicket, but Ishan got out following securing the first innings lead. Goa made a partnership of 36 runs on the last wicket and were all out for 311 runs.

In the second innings, Kerala resumed batting at 172 for the loss of six wickets and were bowled out for 200 runs. Kerala lost Jalaj Saxena who scored 34 runs with Rohan Prem at the beginning of the fourth day. Mohit Redkar got the wicket. After that, Redkar returned Rohan Prem who gave hope by scoring 70 runs. Kerala was devastated by the double blow inflicted by Redkar.
