Colombo> UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has been elected as the President of Sri Lanka. Gotabaya Rajapaksa was acting as the interim president following the resignation of the president. 223 people cast their votes in the 225-member parliament. Ranil Wickramasinghe got 134 votes.
The opposing candidates were Janata Vimukti Peramuna leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake and SLPP rebel Dallas Alahaperuma. Alahaperuma got 82 votes and Anura Kumara Dissanayake got three votes. Four votes were invalid.
