BRONX, New York. – The Texas Rangers will play a doubleheader this Saturday with the Yankees because the rains and winds of Hurricane Debby were soaking the city of New York this Friday.
The game will be the second game of a single-admission doubleheader tomorrow, Saturday, August 10. Game 1 will begin as originally scheduled at 1:05 p.m. Game 2 will begin approximately 30 minutes after Game 1 ends.
It’s the Rangers’ first rainout since June 6, 2022, at Cleveland. The Rangers haven’t played since Wednesday afternoon. This was the second game to be rained out at Yankee Stadium this year.
The last time the Rangers saw a game suspended in the city was May 5-6, 2022.
A week of brutal weather has given the Yankees their second doubleheader in four days.
The Yankees postponed Tuesday’s series opener against the Angels because of rain, resulting in a doubleheader Wednesday that they split.
The three games in two days, along with Luis Gil, Will Warren and Nestor Cortes combining for just 14 innings, took a toll on the Yankees’ bullpen, though Friday’s postponement should help in that regard.
Carlos Rodón was scheduled to start on Friday, Gerrit Cole would follow on Saturday and Marcus Stroman, forced to work on his mechanics after Tuesday’s postponement, will start on Sunday.
The Yankees did not immediately announce how Friday’s postponement might alter their pitching plans.
Both games of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Rangers will be broadcast on YES Network.
The Yankees will start left-hander Carlos Rodón (12-7, 4.37 ERA) in the first game and right-hander Gerrit Cole (3-2, 5.09 ERA) in the final game.
The Rangers have yet to announce their starters, but their first two scheduled starters for the series were left-hander Cody Bradford (3-0, 3.96 ERA) and right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (8-5, 3.62 ERA).
The Yankees entered Friday tied for first place in the American League East with the Baltimore Orioles at 68-48.
The defending World Series champion Rangers, who were honored at the White House on Thursday’s off day, are 54-61 and 5 1/2 games behind the Houston Astros and Seattle Rangers in the AL West.

New York weather
Cyclone Debby, downgraded to a tropical depression, made landfall in New York on Friday. Although the storm has moved westward, softening its blow to the three states, the National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for parts of New York and New Jersey.
The storm will also bring periods of heavy rain, isolated severe thunderstorms, strong winds and dangerous rip currents.
New York City Emergency Management has issued a travel advisory due to the threat of heavy rain and flooding.
The storm came out
Debby finally exited the United States on Saturday after the storm spent most of the week unleashing tornadoes and flooding, damaging homes and claiming lives as it moved up the East Coast after first making landfall in Florida as a hurricane.
Debby’s final day over the United States before reaching Canada brought rain to south-central New York and north-central Pennsylvania, prompting evacuations and helicopter rescues.
The post-tropical cyclone continued to dump rainfall across New England and southern Quebec, Canada, on Friday night and conditions are expected to improve Saturday morning as the system continues to move northeastward.
