ARLINGTON, Texas — Rangers’ all-star pitcher Jacob deGrom left the game early fearing injury for the second time in three starts, but Robbie Grossman hit a two-run homer and a pair of doubles for Texas, which defeated the Friday 5-2 to the New York Yankees.
DeGrom retired the first 10 batters and took a 5-0 lead before walking Anthony Rizzo with one out in the fourth inning. He then retired Gleyber Torres on a full count fly ball.
The pitcher took the 0-2 lead once morest Willie Calhoun before a 96.6 mph fastball went wide for a ball. The pitcher grabbed his left side and threw an 89.4 mph slider.
His slowest pitch of the night was wide open, and Calhoun lined a single to opposite left field.
Medical doctor Jacob Newburn and pitching coach Mike Maddux came to the mound. Maddux summoned Bruce Bochy and met with the manager in foul territory. Bochy brought out the two-time National League Cy Young Award winner to bring in Dane Dunning (2-0). There was no update on why DeGrom left the game.
For the Yankees, Venezuelans Oswaldo Cabrera 4-1 with a run scored and Oswald Peraza 4-1.
For the Rangers, Cuban Adolis Garcia 4-2 with a run scored. The Dominican Ezequiel Duran 4-1 with a run produced.
