Ramsau am Dachstein: Bidding for the 2031 Nordic World Ski Championships with Unclear Financing

Ramsau am Dachstein is entering the race for the 2031 World Cup. Financing is still unclear.

The Upper Styrian municipality of Ramsau am Dachstein wants to apply to host the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2031. The majority of the local council passed a corresponding resolution on Monday evening, Mayor Ernst Fischbacher confirmed a report from ORF Steiermark on Tuesday. There have been preliminary discussions for a long time, especially with the winter sports club, which has to formally submit the application. “Now we had to get it moving,” says Fischbacher.

Of course, the financing is still unclear, because the infrastructure of the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1999 is probably no longer usable. The next step is therefore a feasibility study, which the local winter sports club will commission as an applicant. Fischbacher wants to inform the ski association committees on Tuesday in order to then officially receive applicant status.

The mayor does not yet know anything regarding other Austrian locations that want to apply to host the same World Cup. However, some other ski areas abroad will compete to host the World Cup. According to Fischbacher, a decision as to who will be awarded the contract will probably not be made until 2026. (APA)
