AFP news agency reported that on April 21, José Ramos-Horta, Independence Leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Announcing victory in East Timor’s presidential election held on Tuesday (April 19) that he has received overwhelming support. and will now work to promote dialogue and unity in the country.

Mr Ramos-Horta’s victory came following East Timor’s Electoral Administration (STAE) said: The results of all vote counting indicated that Ramos-Horta won by a decisive 62 percent of the vote, leaving behind rival President Francis Lou Olo Guterres with 37 percent of the support.

Mr Ramos-Horta told reporters in Dili regarding the election results that He was empowered by the people and the country to express the people’s overwhelming commitment to democracy. He also raised concerns regarding political instability in the country. which he said would work to cement the rift in East Timor. known as Timor Leste too

In addition, Mr. Ramos-Horta It also said East Timor is expected to become the 11th member of ASEAN by this year or at the latest next year. East Timor currently maintains its status as the only observer in ASEAN.

Ramos-Horta, 72, is one of East Timor’s political figures and served as president from 2007 to 2012 and is the country’s first prime minister. He is scheduled to take office on May 20, the 20th anniversary of East Timor’s independence from Indonesia.
