Edi Rama’s claim that Greece is forcing Albanian immigrants to change their names in order to obtain papers is a serious issue with diplomatic ramifications.

In his speech, according to the news outlet, the Albanian prime minister said among other things: “Brothers, I received many messages from Albanians in Italy following the red and black dance in the heart of Greece. On more than one occasion, I was told when I came to Milan, I must not forget that you also suffered.”

Rama: “You Albanians in Italy did not change your names, as happened to our brothers in Greece”

“It seemed almost as if you felt excluded from a race of historical pains, almost jealous that the terrible suffering of the Albanians of Greece makes the painful history of the Albanians in Europe and their acceptance more heroic…” he added.

In yet another challenge, the Albanian prime minister said: “You Albanians of Italy did not change your names, compulsorily and widely as happened tragically to hundreds and thousands of our brothers and sisters in Greece, for a single and valid reason, which we all know very well”.

Repeated challenges from Rama

It is recalled that the day before yesterday, in yet another provocative statement, as denounced by the expatriate organization “Omonoia”, the Rama he allegedly extorted citizens of Greek origin not to identify themselves as Greeks and that he “distributes property titles for homes of Chimarriots”.

According to iefimerida, in a statement the Democratic Union of the National Greek Minority – Omonia stated that Rama during a visit to Heimarra handed out some property titles for Heimarriot houses and called on the residents not to identify themselves as Greeks, because it is not in their interest .
