The German Ralf Rangnick (63) has been appointed coach of the Austrian team. The current Manchester United interim manager has signed a two-year contract.
Rangnick succeeds his compatriot Franco Foda, sacked last month. He will lead his first match on June 3 once morest Croatia in the Nations League. His contract will be automatically extended for two years, until the 2026 World Cup, if Austria qualifies for Euro 2024 in Germany.
The Austrian Federation (ÖFB) had also notably surveyed Vladimir Petkovic, the former coach of Switzerland. He was available following his brief and disappointing adventure in Bordeaux.
Rangnick will also retain a consulting mandate with Manchester United, for whom he will work six days a month. Dutchman Erik Ten Hag will be the manager of the Red Devils from next season.
