Kolkata: Rajasthan Royals defeated former champions Kolkata Knight Riders by nine wickets to win the IPL. The possibility of play-offs has been maintained in cricket.

Batting first, Kolkata Knight Riders scored 149 runs for eight wickets. Batting back, Rajasthan took the winning run with 41 balls to spare. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 98 runs in 47 balls including five sixes and 12 fours and skipper Sanju Samson scored 48 runs in 29 balls including five sixes and two fours. Jos Buttler (0) was run out in the first over but Yashaswi and Jaiswal combined to take Rajasthan to the target without further loss. Rajasthan finished third with 12 points from 12 games.

Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who conceded 25 runs in four overs and took four wickets, defeated Kolkata. Chahal also holds the record as the highest wicket-taker in the IPL. Chahal has taken 187 wickets so far. Chahal surpassed Dwayne Bravo’s record of 183 wickets. Chahal set the record when he dismissed Kolkata skipper Nitish Rana. Venkatesh Iyer was the top scorer with 57 runs in 42 balls including four sixes and two fours. Skipper Nitish Rana (22 off 17 balls) is another promising batsman. Venkatesh Iyer put up a fight but Chahal kept Kolkata in line. Colt were 29 for two when Trent Boult dismissed openers Jason Roy (10) and Rahmatullah Gurbaz (18 off 12 balls with two sixes and a four). Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana’s partnership took Kolkata forward. Sanju Samson gave the next over to Chahal. Chahal brought Rana into the hands of Hitmir and broke the alliance.
