Filmmaker and director SS Rajamouli’s star is doing well these days. His film ‘RRR’ first raised flags of phenomenal success in India and now continues to receive worldwide acclaim, starting with winning the Best Director Award at the New York Film Critics Circle.

Rajamouli, who has been based in the US for the past several weeks, clarified an old comment he made about Hrithik Roshan in 2009 a few days ago.
At a press event, he used ‘inappropriate words’ comparing the Bollywood star to Telugu star Prabhas, which he now realises.
Rajamouli, who directed Prabhas in the blockbuster ‘Baahubali’, said in 2009: ‘When Dhoom 2 was released two years ago, it occurred to me why only Bollywood can produce such quality films. Don’t we have heroes like Hrithik Roshan?
‘I have just seen the songs, poster and trailer of Billa and I can only say one thing. This is what Hrithik Roshan sells in front of Prabhas. I would like to thank Meher Ramesh (director) for taking Telugu cinema to Hollywood level.’
Billa, which hit the screens in 2009, is actually a Telugu remake of Saleem Javed’s ‘Don’. The 1978 ‘Don’ starred Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role and was made on a budget of Rs 70 lakh and managed to collect Rs 7 crore.
Salim Javed’s story continued to attract the attention of filmmakers and there have been about eight remakes of this film in different languages.
Even though Mahar Ramesh’s film did not do well at the box office, many filmmakers including Rajamouli still appreciate his skills and Prabhas’ acting.
According to him, with this film, Telugu cinema filled a new stage in terms of technique, which influenced the work of many filmmakers in the future.
At one point while praising Meher Ramesh and ‘Billa’, Rajamouli uttered the words mentioned above and from there began an endless series of comparisons between Prabhas and Hrithik Roshan.
A few days ago, when Rajamouli was asked about this controversial comment, he said, ‘It is from a long time ago. I think about 15, 16 years ago. However, yes I must admit that my choice of words was not appropriate. My intention was not to bring him (Hrithik Roshan) down, I respect him a lot. That thing was left behind.’

But many users were offended by the reference to Sindh in his comment, which he termed as ‘biased’. According to one user: ‘In every region of the third world, there are incidents where animals are tied up in schools, in such cases, mentioning Sindh unnecessarily is based on prejudice, what can be done about it but regret.’
But the most debated by the users was regarding the films of Prabhas and Hrithik Roshan that are releasing this year. Prabhas’ ‘Saalaar’ and Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Fighter’ are expected to hit the theaters on the same day on September 8. Fans of both sides took the good news of each other.
A fan of Prabhas wrote: ‘It will also be a lot for Fighter if his total collection reaches half of Salaar’s opening day business. Both of them are being compared just so that Hrithik’s film can also become part of the news.
A fan warned Hrithik that ‘Prabhas’ film will also play in the South while your fighter will depend entirely on the Hindi belt, which will leave him badly beaten. There is still time to think.’
