Presentations were given by Professor Judith Nsondé Malanda, doctor-oncologist at the University Hospital Center (CHU) of Brazzaville, director of the National Cancer Control Program, and by Doctor Génidole Moukengué (psychologist). Through images projected on the small screen, Judith Nsondé Malanda sounded the alarm regarding the seriousness of breast and cervical cancer, and called on women to be screened in time.
Indeed, these two types of cancer are also the ones that kill the most, and this is mainly due to the ignorance surrounding these scourges. This is what has marked Judith Nsndé Malanda over the years. “ What I have noticed since the beginning is the lack of information that people are victims of. It is ignorance that kills more than the disease, because we see that more than 80% of women with these cancers come to the hospital when they are already at an advanced stage of the disease. This explains the high rate of deaths recorded. »
Faced with this reality, she joined forces with cancer survivors to overcome the statistics by reaching out to the population with life-saving messages. “ The main message we give them is to get tested in time because when you are detected early, you have a better chance of getting through it. “, explained the oncologist.
To help the population understand the structure and functioning of mental activity and the behaviors associated with it, the Noevy-Itoua Foundation called on a psychologist, Doctor Génidole Moukengué. Its role during the cancer treatment phase consists of “ help the patient to cope with upheavals, to integrate a necessary loss of control and to rely on the medical team “. This professional also explained how he helps patients cope with different situations: anxiety, family disruptions, difficult relationships with loved ones, weariness, etc.
Furthermore, survivors who suffered from breast cancer testified and noted the importance of early detection.
The effectiveness of early detection
In a message made public by its executive director, Ignace Taliane Tchibamba, the president of the Noevy Itoua Foundation, Bruno Jean Richard Itoua, insisted on the importance of cancer screening, which makes it possible to detect tumors at an early level, and therefore save lives.
« Today as yesterday, we want to once once more raise awareness among the women around us and beyond to get screened so that they are not those people who are destroyed by lack of knowledge, as the word of God points out. Because detected early, breast cancer is cured in 9 out of 10 cases. », declared the president of this NGO, Bruno Jean Richard Itoua.
During the ceremony, the executive director of the Noevy-Itoua Foundation, Ignace Taliane Tchibamba, paid tribute to all those who have died from cancer. He cited Noevy Itoua, Calissa Ikama, Obami Itou, Tabitha Ndongo Mokana etc. Without forgetting those who have dedicated their lives to the fight once morest cancer, including Professor Charles Ngombé Mbalawa, “ this brave fighter from the early days of the fight once morest cancer in Congo, carried with him his passion to complete the conquest by giving hope of life to his patients ».
The Noevy-Itoua Foundation aims to raise awareness, educate and inform regarding cancers which increasingly affect young people. It brings together donors, experts, volunteers, researchers and other actors committed and driven by the desire to act in the fight once morest cancer in Congo and Africa. She also wants to provide the necessary elements to carry out this often fatal fight.
According to the executive director, the cancer awareness campaign which will continue in Pointe-Noire aims to make the population aware of the link that exists between a healthy lifestyle and cancer, to change behaviors in encouraging people to change habits and gradually adopt good reflexes to reduce the risk of cancer.
